Within the heart of Horwich Parish we ensure that all pupils leave our school with the necessary English skills to flourish in life. Within this subject we ensure pupils ‘let their light shine’ and become confident and competent users
of the English Language. Our fundamental mission as educators is to develop reading and writing skills, vocabulary and confidence to thrive.

In all year groups, reading plays an integral part of the curriculum ensuring all pupils are exposed to a range of high quality texts of different genres, developing and fostering a love of reading.

We follow a mastery approach to writing through the programme ‘Pathways to Writing’; units are delivered using high quality texts and where pupils are given varied opportunities for writing. Skills are built up through repetition within
the units and the pupils apply these skills in writing activities.
