Growth mindset mantra: I can’t do it yet… with effort I can.

Dear Parents and Carers,

The end to a successful second week! The children are becoming more aware of how to develop positive learning behaviours and have settled well into school. As you may be aware we complete the register at 8:50 am and then start lessons straight away, so it is vital your child is on time so they don’t miss the initial input of the lesson. Well done to the 6 classes who had no-one late all week. Let’s get to 14 classes next week!

Well done to 5 of our classes as you had 100% attendance for this week. Please can parents now ensure that they bring appointment letters to inform school if they will not be in school for part of the day so these can be recorded on our system for attendance, otherwise they will be classed as unauthorised. We really appreciate your support in trying to make any appointments out of school time.

Communication

We hope you found the dates helpful to plan this year. We will update this as the term progresses. Each week we will ensure key information is on the newsletter. To further develop communication each day any messages and letters will be given to teachers at 2:30 pm so it is important that any messages are provided to school before this point, especially regarding picking up arrangements.

Very little money passes through the office due to Parentpay however please can any money given in at the office be clearly labelled with the child’s name and registration group in a sealed envelope.

Golden tickets!

You may be aware that some of your children have come home with a ‘Golden Ticket’. During the day a teacher may observe a child demonstrating: exceptional acts of kindness, politeness and growth mindset attitude. When they are spotted they receive a golden ticket and then are eligible to enter a raffle to get a prize which is drawn on Friday in our celebration assembly. We would love you to celebrate with your child their achievements as we are very proud of their acts and attitudes towards their learning.

Prayer group at school

As a church school, we encourage children to lead their lives following Christian values and they are embedded in the way we approach each day with the children in our care.  We would also like to work more closely in this aspect of our school life with all parents. Mrs Muzvidziwa, who has children in year 2 and 4, has offered to lead a prayer group for parents who feel they would like to meet together to pray for the school community. I know she has already canvassed opinion and there are parents who have shown a clear interest.  Please can you email awashington@horwichparish.net  if you would like to join the group by 22nd  September so we can review the number of parents interested. We look forward to hearing from you.

Growth mindset

It was lovely to hear a child in year one this week say, “ My neurons are helping me to learn as I’m not giving up and they are joining together!” He is definitely developing a growth mindset! As a school we have been working on the science of growth mindset again this week.

Sharing our manifesto

This week children who wanted to stand for school, safety and eco council presented their manifestos to the class. Next week they will be voting using authentic polling booths thanks to Mrs Hall! We will be able to share the results as soon as the count has been done – hopefully we won’t need a re-count.

PTA- come and join us!

It would be lovely to see parents and family members coming to our first PTA meeting on Wednesday 20th September in school at 6pm- 7pm . We will be organising events that raise funds for school through enjoyable events for all families to join in.  We will decide on a clear focus as to what we will be raising funds for so we can keep you updated on the newsletter.

 Lunchtime clubs:

Cross country club every Monday lunchtime for Year 4-6 children with Mrs Washington. We will also be choosing our school team on Monday due to cross country events taking place very soon. Unfortunately we were rained off last week Anyone can come along though. You may just want to just enjoy a jog. Para Olympic fencer coming to our school

We’re very excited to be welcoming GB Paralympic Fencer Craig McCann to the school on Monday, 25 September. Craig was spotted by the British disabled Fencing Association in 2010, after being diagnosed with a brain tumour in 2004 leaving Craig permanently disabled. Craig has some great achievements including reaching the quarter finals at the 2012 Olympics in London. Craig is now training in the disciplines of Paracycling and Paratriathlon.

Craig will be leading a sponsored fitness circuit with all pupils, and will follow-up with a talk and question and answer session. The aim of the event is to inspire the pupils to take up sport generally, but just as importantly to encourage them to discover and then pursue their passion in life.

The children will be provided with a sponsorship form for your child to use in order to help raise money for the event. You can also sponsor your child by following the below link:

Please also make sure that your child/children come to school on the event day with their PE Kits!

Newsletter 08/09/2017

Dear Parents and Carers,

Welcome back to school. We hope you had a lovely summer break and are looking forward to the oncoming year with children, parents and staff working together to help our children achieve their potential.

We wish to welcome Miss Mitchell to our school as the executive headteacher. It has been a super week for Miss Mitchell meeting our children and staff. I am sure it will be a really productive term as we continue to develop and grow our school.

Communication

This year we hope to build on parent feedback in questionnaires and to governors. Please find attached an outline of key dates from the year so you can plan ahead and be prepared for oncoming events. Staff are available at each entrance each morning to pass on messages. We continue to send a weekly newsletter and use face book, our school blog (horwichparish.net) and texting to share the life of Horwich Parish CE Primary School.

Growth mindset

I hope your children have been talking about ‘Growth mindset’. Don’t worry; the children will be learning lots more about it to help improve learner behaviours and support children so they can achieve their true potential. We will be putting information on the blog and providing a workshop in school as it would be super if you could embark on this journey with us. This week we have been learning about how the brain can grow and develop.

Starting the day

Please remember that the school doors open at 8:40 am. Children must be supervised at all times before the doors open. The doors close at 8:50 and the register is taken straight away and is closed at 9am. We start our lessons at 9am and we know every minute counts to help your child, so please make sure your child is in school on time. The school gates are closed at 9am so we can all start the school day.

Last newsletter of this school year!

Dear Parents and Carers,

Thank you from Mr Beedie

I have had so many gifts, cards and words of kindness over the last few days, I couldn’t begin to find the chance to say thank you individually. So to all staff, parents and children, my thanks for all your kind gifts and wishes, and also for your partnership with me over 12½ years.  I will keep in touch with the school, and how you are all doing, and let you know how I get on.

Staff changes

As we say “goodbye” today to Mr Beedie, Miss Hasselder, Mrs Pye, Mrs Dickson and Miss Parker we wish them well in whatever they do in the future.

We are also pleased to announce that Mrs Dickson has been replaced, and our new TA is called Mrs Dickens (what a coincidence!) and she will be working with Year 6 next term. We will also be welcoming Miss Nicholson to our TA staff team for the year.  Mrs Slingsby will be working four days per week next term, and her Y2 class will be taught by Mrs J Ford on Wednesdays.

New windows

We are pleased that the final section of windows will be replaced in the infant building, so the uPVC will be complete all round the building. We are intending for the work to be complete by the time the children return from the summer. We have been lucky enough to receive a grant for this from the DfE, and we are grateful to the PCC of our church for the 10% contribution.

Y6 leavers

Our very best wishes go to the Year 6 children leaving today, and we look forward to hearing of their successes as they move on to high school.

Year 2 moving to Year 3 – School Dinners

School dinner prices from September will be £1.40 per day. Payment for the term will be £47.60 payable via ParentPay.

If your child is moving from Year 2 to Year 3 in September and having school meals, please remember that you will need to start paying for dinners in September. If you do not already have your ParentPay login please see the school office for a letter confirming your login details.

Parent collaboration

From September we would like to perhaps set up a parent group who would be able to contribute to ideas and initiatives and give a parent’s viewpoint so all stakeholders informed and all views gathered. The group would meet approximately once every half term before the end of the school day or later if more helpful to parents interested. Please could you email awashington@horwichparish.net if interested in sharing and contributing to help move our school forward. It would be great to gain a selection of parents across the different year groups. We already a have a few parents who have shown an interest in working together.
