Many thanks

Recent events

I am sure we have all been affected by recent events in London and Manchester and we would like to provide information which you may find useful with your children. The link below gives you access to information which may help you and your child during these difficult times.

Baking cakes – well done Ben, Josh & Frankie

It is lovely to hear about our children trying to help others and making a real difference to support our community. Ben, Josh and Frankie during half term spent a whole day baking all kinds of cakes, jam tarts and biscuits and sold them outside their nana’s house and made more than £100. They deposited the money at a Manchester bank for the Manchester appeal and went on to look at the memorial in St Ann’s Square. It was an important lesson in making a difference.

New staff member

As we mentioned in a recent email, Miss R Seager will be joining our staff as a teacher in Y4, 5 or 6 from September. We are delighted to welcome her to our staff.  We are just now finalising arrangements for which teachers will be teaching each class, and will let you know soon.

Don’t forget it is the Music Festival at the Victoria Hall on Thursday 22nd June at 7.30pm and tickets are available at the school office.  The choir will be rehearsing at the hall on Wednesday 21st June during the afternoon, returning for the end of school. There will also be an additional practice in school on Friday 16th June until 4.20pm. It is important that all of the choir attend this if at all possible. Thank you.

Children’s University – Passport to learning

If your child is currently taking part in the children’s passport scheme and wants to attend the graduation ceremony please contact the school office so we can pass on your details. Thankyou.

 Text Messaging Service

This week we have transferred over to ParentPay for sending all our text messages. Please ensure that you keep the school informed of any changes in your contact details.

Operation Orphan – Keep a Child Warm Project

On Thursday 22nd June Operation Orphan will be calling into school to collect any coats which you no longer require which could be donated to them.  Please do not bring in any coats prior to this date as we do not have the storage space in the office. Many thanks.

100 club winners

We have some cheques in the office for winners of the 100 club from the past few months. Please collect them from the school office:

  • L Peacock
  • N Gill-Smith
  • P E Jeremie
  • R Bagnall

New School Uniform list

Attached to this newsletter is the new school uniform ordering list. The main difference is that we have ordered book bags which have shoulder straps. They should be with us within the next 2/3 weeks.

If you wish to place any uniform orders please complete the attached form and return it to the school office. Payment to be made in cash or cheque to the school office.

 Dinner Monies – Year 3 – 6 children

Please ensure that you always remain in credit if your child takes a school dinner and is within years 3 -6.

Dinner money for this half term is £43.75 payable online via ParentPay. If you do not have your login details please see the school office.

Cycling – Horwich festival of racing

Thank you to all parents who responded to my recent email. We nearly have 5 teams and need one more person for the festival of racing on the 18th June. If interested please see Mrs Washington.

Cricket team

Well done to our cricket team. We got through to the semi-finals and then missed out on the final by 3 runs! The children were great and thank you to the parents for their support.

Year 4 Sunning Hill visit

Next week Year 4 will be having visits to and from Sunning Hill School.

4H will be visiting them on Wednesday and 4P on Thursday during school hours. During their visit there they will be attending their local mosque, and then upon their visits here they will be visiting Holy Trinity Church. If you will be able to help with either of these visits please contact a Year 4 teacher.

Health week

Well what a wash out! One mention of health week and it brings the rain. Next year we may have to change it to ‘wet week’ and organise alternative types of activities. We will hopefully re-arrange all the activities we had planned if possible for later in the term.

Football trials for Year 4 competition There will be a year 4 football trial open to all year 4 children on Tuesday 20th June from 3:20-4:20pm. All trialists will need a kit including shin pads, boots and trainers. This is for a football tournament which will take place on Thursday 29th June from 3:15-5:00pm.

Enterprise exhibition Year 6

We are very proud of the year 6 teachers and children. They have been working on an enterprise exhibition to launch the Fiver Challenge. The idea behind the exhibition is for the children to design and promote their products. The Year 6 children will be selling their products from 13th June after school or, in one group’s case, at playtime until the end of the month. The children are working incredibly hard on producing a pop-up shop display for the exhibition and we can definitely see entrepreneurs for the future!
